TCAPS Social Equity Taskforce has been disbanded following the July 26th Board Meeting. For transparency, the Board voted to begin a new DEIB Board subcommittee that will advise the Board on DEIB issues. Many Social Equity Taskforce members will make up this new DEIB subcommittee. Stay tuned for more information.
The Social Equity Taskforce started as a fact-finding group but morphed into an policy group after a social media incident (which we condemn). There is no doubt this group is influenced by CRT ideology, as you can see from group ties, the meeting notes, the training they promote, and the focus areas they seek to impact.
Stated Goal: To provide leadership and focused action for our district and school community around equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Provide equity definition/statement to Executive Team and Board. Use this definition as basis for creation of a Board Resolution to be reviewed and presented for adoption.
Identify tangible areas of the curriculum to immediately address and provide resources and training for staff. Examples include; Black History Month, Thanksgiving, MLK, Asian American Heritage Month, etc. Provide teachers with TCAPS approved resources to recognize events and integrate diversity.
Audit K-12 curriculum and systems through an equity lens (2021-22). Are all groups represented in the curriculum? This audit will begin in the summer of 2021.
Provide a diverse assortment of books, so students not only see themselves in books they read but can empathize with those who have different viewpoints or perspectives.
Explore and expand learning opportunities for staff. There will be multiple options for personal, professional learning opportunities provided to staff.
Provide support to lift student voices in the work of DEIB. Systems will be in place so students can raise perspective on how they experience things as a learner in TCAPS.
